Dear Friends and Music Lovers,
George Gershwin is one of America's musical treasures. Who else could have written THE RHAPSODY IN BLUE and AN AMERICAN IN PARIS? In celebration of the Ontario/Chaffey Show Band's 20th anniversary, we are inviting a World Class Pianist, Maria Perez-Goodman to join us on this special event and share her talents.
Maria has just returned from a South American Concert Tour and has accepted our invitation. She will play Gershwin's THREE PRELUDES, and join the band to perform the one and only RHAPSODY IN BLUE.
You will meet the real George Gershwin through a 75 image slide show and narration. Did you know that as a kid roaming the streets he was constantly in trouble with the cops because of his habit of stealing? Did you know that there was a war going on between him and his school Principal? It finally exploded and Gershwin dropped out of school to take a job plugging tunes at the famous "Tin Pan Alley". His salary was $15 a week.
Many of Gershwin's most famous tunes will be sung by 7 vocalist, one of them being Paul Harms, Chairman of Chaffey High Vocal Department.
We invite you to share this evening and enjoy a program that will close the Ontario/Chaffey Show Band's 2005 season. We want to make this event so special that you will be sitting on the edge of your seats waiting for our 2006 season which begins in October.
Check the back of your programs for a look at what's to come. And visit our website at http://www.showband.net, for even MORE information about the band and it's activities.
Your Friendly Band Director, Jack
